introduction

Main reasons why horses are clipped:

Health -

Horses suffering from cushings disease or equire metabolic syndrome (EMS) struggle to regulate their own body temperature. They won’t always shed their coat.

Competing -

It is easier to groom and maintain a horses coat if it is clipped all year round.

Lice -

It is easier to treat a horse for lice with a clipped coat.

Work Load -

Clipping Horses in regular work over the winter months to prevent them from getting a wet coat every time they are exercised and taking hours to dry off.

“Horse people are stable people.”

Have you ever had a non-horsey friend or partner ask why you have them clipped over the coldest months of the year? What’s your response?

Horses that are exercised regularly over winter are more likely to feel the cold. As their coat dries off, it clumps or gets matted, allowing cold air through to reach their skin. Meaning, they take longer to dry off as the outside temperature is not warm enough for them to dry off.
